Ruth's plant sale Donate Our Niece was extremely ill late in 2020 and was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia. She was really lucky that her GP realised how gravely ill she was and sent her to hospital immediately, where she had a blood transfusion and subsequent treatment, including, eventually, a bone marrow transplant. This all happened during Covid and the process was harrowing for her and our whole family. The Aplastic Anaemia Trust provided a lot of information and support during this time and we are lucky enough to say that today she is fit and well. We will never be able to thank the anonymous bone marrow donor, who had to go into isolation for weeks before donating bone marrow to save her life, but we can try to raise some money to support this charity. Aplastic Anaemia is considered 'super rare' and only affects 100 to 150 people in the UK each year, but for those affected it is a life threatening condition, and the road back to health is a long arduous road.
